How to see congressional trades on TradingView

Members of Congress must publicly report most stock trades under the STOCK Act. Here are two ways to see those reports for the stock on your TradingView chart: one automatic, one by hand.

Option 1: show them on the chart with Capitol Tape (free)

  1. Install Capitol Tape from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons. It works in desktop Chrome and Firefox. No account is needed.
  2. Open a chart on TradingView, for example tradingview.com/chart/?symbol=NASDAQ:NVDA, or any stock's symbol page.
  3. Look at the right edge of the chart. A small tab shows the ticker and how many recent disclosures there are. Click it to open the panel; press Esc to close it.
  4. Read each row: the member, party letter, chamber, state or district, buy or sell, the amount range, the trade date and the filing date, with a link to the official filing portal.
  5. Change symbols as usual. The panel follows the chart without reloading.

Capitol Tape also shows a small floating box that says Quiet, Watch or Hot, depending on how many filings there are and how close together. It describes filing activity only; it is not a buy or sell signal.

On a TradingView corporate-bond chart, Capitol Tape looks up the issuing company and shows that company's stock disclosures.

Option 2: look them up by hand

  1. Open the House Clerk's financial disclosure search (opens in a new tab) and the Senate's eFD search (opens in a new tab).
  2. Search for periodic transaction reports (PTRs) by member name and date. The official sites search by member, not by ticker.
  3. Open each report and look for the ticker you care about.

This is slower, but it is the official record. It is also the right place to double-check anything you see in any tool, including ours.
